I'm annoying my friend by calling the upcoming #DoctorWho series "a season", because that's what #BBC is doing.
@bugbear I'll accept the BBC calling it that when they make Doctor Who with more than 20 episodes per series again. I hope you are successfully annoying your friend though!
@redthewizard I am willing to call it a season unironically if they start releasing it in full on the same day for binge watching. (I actually like the weekly releases, although I don't have a TV licence so I can't actually watch it on BBC. I usually end up watching it on iPlayer a few days later at my friend's house)
I find it silly that we're having "season 2" in April, though. I get it, it's because this is New Who (or as I like to call it New New Who, considering the 2005 reboot was already New Who), but this is getting a bit confusing when you try to discuss old episodes with people.
To be fair though, BBC can do whatever they want, it's their series, and I respect that.
(Sorry for the long reply, I've just got opinions.)
Edit to add: Though I wouldn't be against Doctor Who serials again, haha.
@bugbear I'd feel the opposite! If you can watch it new, in a day, then that's clearly not a "season"! That's a day. If it's called a season and it starts airing at the beginning of spring, it had better not be still spring by the time the last episode airs! :D
Agreed on the whole numbering thing though. Are we going to have to rename New Who to Middle Who? Palaeo-Who, Meso-Who, Neo-Who. I don't think New Who (2005) itself should have started from 1 again either though. We're on S41 this year.
@redthewizard haha, I see your point. I think it's just that I am getting used to American shows releasing their full seasons on the same day.
I can see the argument for the 2005 reboot to reset the count, because it was both a reboot and clearly targeted at completely new audience (not trying to exclude the classic fans, but the series has its demographics). But I've said the same thing to my friebd today, that if we wanted to be technical about it, the 41st series is coming out next month. We would avoid so much confusion.
But then, thanks to the fact 2005 was a reboot, we got 60th anniversary in 2023 and then this year it's 20th anniversary, which seems on point for a series about time travel, haha.
